Keep in mind that touch up pens are for localised cosmetic improvement, not for creating an invisible repair. From normal standing distance they make chips less noticeable, but up close you may still see where the paint was applied — this is normal for any dab-based system.

How to Fix and Test a Stone Chip Repair Pen for the Best Practical Result?

Before repairing anything, test the colour first. Shake the pen thoroughly, apply a very small amount on a discreet area or test card and let it dry fully. Viewing the dry colour in daylight gives the most accurate impression.
To fix a stone chip, start by cleaning the damaged spot — remove dirt, wax and any loose paint. Make sure the surface is completely dry. Use the nib to place a small, controlled drop of paint into the chip. Avoid dragging the nib; dab gently, especially on metallics, so the flakes lie evenly. Let it dry and repeat with thin layers if needed.
Some colours require clear coat to restore gloss. This is especially true for metallic, pearl or high-gloss finishes. Touch up colour alone often dries with less shine because it’s applied by nib rather than spray. If your colour typically uses clear coat, apply it after the colour layer has fully cured, again in thin, controlled amounts.
A touch up pen improves appearance and makes chips less visible, but it won’t recreate a spray-gun finish. The goal is a neat, tidy repair that looks good from a normal viewing distance and prevents the eye from catching the defect.
